As one of the most diverse schools in the nation, in a city founded by the diverse perspectives of men and women, it is simply impossible to avoid the importance of diversity. Its foundation lies in the words we say and the actions we make, though it cannot be understood without dialogue.
Become a part of this dialogue at DePaul's first-ever Diversity Summit, as we explore the ways in which diversity affects our lives on a daily basis. Join the Student Government Association, Student Affairs and the Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity for a day of discussion delving into aspects of allyship, privilege, spirituality and more. Hear from Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M., President of DePaul, and nationally-renowned author and lecturer Vernon Wall, and enjoy performances from some of DePaul's favorite cultural groups!
Breakout sessions include:
Allyship by Charee Holloway
“This breakout session will engage students in critical reflection around intrapersonal and interpersonal attitudes and behaviors relating to being an ally to different cultural communities.”
Spirituality and Diversity by DePaul Student Interfaith Scholars
“This breakout session will present 'The four ways of interfaith dialogue at DePaul' to frame the discussion about how to naturally gain competence with interfaith concerns. It will engage participants by educating and also giving them an opportunity to dialogue and share through an Interfaith Cafe.”
Education and Diversity by Marisol Morales
“This breakout session will present participatory education and its impact on enhancing diversity, and will communicate the importance of service learning for diverse students.”
Socioeconomic Differences by Eric Mata
“This breakout session will introduce the challenges that students face, defined by socioeconomic disparities, and the possible solutions that they can make happen.”
The Summit will take place February 13 from 11 AM - 3:30 PM in Lincoln Park Student Center #314 AB. The event is free and lunch will be provided.
